Sinopsis:

Nos situamos en un mundo apocalíptico en el que toda la población está expuesta a una pandemia vírica. Con el propósito dehuir del mortífero virus, Danny (Lou Taylor Pucci), su hermano Brian (Chris Pine), la novia de éste, Bobby (Piper Perabo) yla amiga de clase de Danny, Kate (Emily Vancamp) cruzan a todo gas el suroeste de EEUU en busca de un lugar seguro. Dannyrecuerda unas idílicas vacaciones familiares en una playa aislada y convence al grupo de que esa es su mejor opción: unaretirada playa de surferos en el Golfo de Méjico. Al llegar allí, podrán vivir tranquilamente y esperar a que se extinga elvirus, incluso si eso significa que serán los únicos supervivientes de esta enfermedad apocalíptica.
Este nuevo mundo se rige por unas reglas bien sencillas: sólo se utilizarán carreteras secundarias poco transitadas y seevitará el contacto con otros humanos cueste lo que cueste. No obstante, el viaje va haciendo mella en sus actitudesdespreocupadas y su inocencia juvenil comienza a desvanecerse entre las ruinas de autopistas y pueblos vacíos, según vanenfrentándose por el camino a otros combativos supervivientes o a infectados que lanzan un desesperado grito de ayuda. Es unalucha por la supervivencia.
En el curso de cuatro días, el grupo se ve obligado a tomar decisiones morales a las que ningún ser humano quisiera tener queenfrentarse nunca. Descubren que su mayor enemigo no es el mortífero virus, sino la crueldad y la maldad que habitan en lomás profundo del ser humano.
